Days of Our Lives increases the Growth of Rye Grass

Abstract:

I wanted to see if being exposed to a full hour of Days of Our Lives for one week would increase the growth of Rye Grass. I treated both groups the same as far as water and sunlight.

Introduction:

My hypothesis was that the plants in the experimental group, those exposed to Days of Our Lives for one full hour, would grow more rapidly than those plants not exposed to the Soap Opera. As every household gardener knows, exposing plants to conversation increases the average growth. I based my hypothesis on this knowledge.

Methods:

I planted 30 Annual Rye Grass seeds and put them into two containers. I placed them in a plastic bag for faster growth. I let my plants grow for 2 days before starting my experiment. I then exposed my experimental group to Days of Our Lives for one full hour each day for eight days. I placed the containers on the coffee table in the living room. The plants were then exposed to the Soap Opera. After the exposure, I returned the plants to the window sill. I rotated my two containers everyday so that each group received the same amount of sunlight. I continued this process for eight days. I then measured the plants using inches and recorded my data.

Results:

I used the Dependent t to calculate my results. I took the measurements of the Rye Grass measurements to see if my experimental hypothesis was correct. My obtained t was 2.2099 and my critical t was 1.761. I, therefore, rejected the null hypothesis. Figure 1 shows the average growth of each of the groups.

Discussion:

My hypothesis was that exposure to Days of Our Lives increases Rye Grass growth. I found that it does in fact increase the growth. The evidence is very clear that conversation, or Days of Our Lives , does increase growth. My results support my hypothesis.
